Western Thrace Turks start migrating to Australia in 1969. They start forming an association and opened a Turkish language school in 1971. The association was officially established at a general meeting with the acceptance of a revised constitution on 29 March 1975.
To keep alive the Western Thrace Turkish culture with activities and pass on the Turkish language and culture to young and future generations, also to raise respectable community members who can keep and share their wonderful culture with the wider Australian community and to function within the guidelines of Australian Government policies for multiculturalism are among the main aims.
The association has its own building with administration offices, weekend Turkish school, café shop, prayer room and a function/reception hall. Cultural and social activities are regularly carried out at this association. The business of the association is managed by the executive committee who is supported by Education Subgroup – Turkish School, Publications, Women’s, Subgroup, Turkish Classical Music Subgroup, Youth Subgroup and 160 members.
